Almost 200 students are studying in China, England, Hawaii, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Madagascar, Peru, Russia, and South Africa during winter break.
This is the 38th year in which Lafayette is offering concentrated, three-week, faculty-led courses during the January interim session between semesters. In many courses, students take part in hands-on field work and meet prominent business people, cultural figures, government officials, and scholars, learning directly from these experts about the subject matter they are studying.
In May and June, students will explore Germany, Greece, and the national parks of Western U.S. in similar faculty-led, concentrated courses.
The College also offers faculty-led semester abroad programs in Bremen, Germany; London, England; Madrid, Spain; and San Jose, Costa Rica. Students take classes taught by Lafayette faculty as well as those of host institutions. They also take part in field trips, which are planned and led by Lafayette professors with the help of local organizers.
Lafayette has affiliations with many colleges and other organizations through which students study abroad in many countries. Students can participate in affiliated programs in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Namibia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tibet, Uganda, and Trinidad.
