TRANSFER PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT
LAFAYETTE COLLEGE
and
NORTHAMPTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE
This Agreement is effective for the 2015-16 Academic Year and is made this __________ day of __________, between Lafayette College (hereinafter “Lafayette”) and Northampton Area Community College (hereinafter “ NCC). Lafayette and NCC agree to mutual cooperation to facilitate the transfer of students from NCC to Lafayette to pursue the designated program of Study for a Bachelor’s degree. The purpose of this Agreement is to facilitate the educational progress for students by eliminating duplication of degree requirements where possible, and to serve as a basis for guiding students as they develop their academic plans.
Lafayette College was founded in 1826 by the citizens of Easton, Pennsylvania, as an all-male liberal arts institution. Throughout its history, the College has continually shaped itself in ways that best serve its educational purpose, remaining supportive of the tradition of liberal arts education, while being responsive to changes and challenges of society and the times. Today Lafayette is an independent, coeducational, residential, undergraduate institution with faculty of distinction and 2,400 full-time students of notable intellectual promise and diverse backgrounds.
The College’s curriculum is distinguished by the rare combination, on an undergraduate campus, of degree programs in the liberal arts and engineering. Students who come to Lafayette may choose among a range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary programs and pursue the Bachelor of Arts degree in 31 fields or the Bachelor of Science degree in nine fields of science and four fields of engineering. Lafayette alumni remain unusually active and supportive of the College and its goals.
This partnership helps advance two primary objectives of the College’s strategic plan that was adopted in 2007, namely enhancing campus diversity and community engagement. It is with these two objectives in mind that this partnership agreement is being developed.
Northampton Community College serves more than 37,000 students a year while maintaining a 24:1 student to faculty ratio. Of NCC’s transfer programs 72% of graduates go on to study at four year institutions. They offer career and transfer programs in more than 100 fields in the arts and sciences, business and technology, education and healthcare. The only community college in Pennsylvania with residence halls, NCC’s main campus is in Bethlehem, PA. NCC also maintains two branch campuses and four satellite sites. More than 16,000 students are enrolled in credit programs, and another 21,000 are enrolled in workforce training, adult literacy classes or youth classes.
NCC has a strong commitment to affordable and accessible education and boasts the largest scholarship program of any community college in Pennsylvania. Of note is the regional and national recognition NCC has earned for excellence in math education and work with business and industry in staff development, microelectronics, pollution control and energy efficiency.
Lafayette and NCC have entered into this Partnership Agreement to facilitate the transfer of students from NCC into a full time baccalaureate program at Lafayette. This collaborative partnership will enable NCC students with an Associate’s degree to earn a Lafayette degree in two years.
Transfer students must be accepted through Lafayette’s existing transfer admissions process. Applicants must be permanent residents or U.S. citizens. While a minimum GPA is not specified, the majority of those offered admission present strong records of academic achievement. Transfer students are required to spend two academic years at Lafayette in order to be eligible for graduation, and at least half of the courses applied toward the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree must be taken at the College.
Application deadlines for transfer students are May 1ST for fall enrollment and November 1ST for spring enrollment. Financial aid applications are due by April 1ST for fall enrollment and October 1ST for spring enrollment. However, since transfer admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis, transfer applicants are encouraged to apply well before the stated deadlines.
All courses are reviewed for equivalency status on a course -by-course basis in accordance with Lafayette’s standard policies and procedures. Normally, each 15 semester hours of transferable credit from NCC will be equivalent to four course units at Lafayette. Lafayette reserves the right to determine, in its sole discretion, which courses will be transferred and applied to a Lafayette degree. Lafayette accepts credits completed at NCC that are listed in the attached tables provided a grade of “C” or better has been achieved. The student will be advised in writing of the credits accepted by Lafayette upon matriculation.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT, LAFAYETTE COLLEGE WILL:
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT, NORTHAMPTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE WILL:
This Agreement is effective on the date it is approved by both parties. Either party may terminate the Agreement with a 90-day written notification period. Representatives from each school are responsible for monitoring this Agreement on an annual basis, and for making amendments if necessary to improve transfer procedures. The Agreement shall only be modified in writing with the same formality as the original Agreement. This Agreement shall create no third party rights
