How do I apply to Lafayette as a transfer student?
Lafayette uses the Common Application. Please visit the Transfer Applicants page to learn more.Â
How do I know if I should apply as a first-year or as a transfer?
To be considered a transfer applicant, a student must be a high school graduate or have a GED (General Equivalency Diploma), and have a minimum of three transferable courses taken after fulfilling high school graduation requirements. Transfer students must spend at least two academic years (4 semesters) at Lafayette to be eligible for graduation. At least half the courses applied toward the major must be taken at Lafayette College.
Is standardized testing required for transfer applicants?
Test scores are not required, but are recommended if previously taken. Lafayette will accept self-reported test scores on your Common App. Official SAT or ACT scores are required upon enrollment if you self-report on your application.
Are interviews available for transfer students?
Yes, interviews are available for transfer students. Interviews are option, but recommended. We conduct them on campus and virtually from late June through mid-January.
I have attended more than one college. Can I submit only a transcript from the school I am currently attending?
No, you cannot submit only a transcript from your current college if you have attended other colleges. You must submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended for a complete transfer application.
Will I know how many of my credits will transfer before I have to pay my deposit?
Lafayette provides a credit evaluation only after extending an offer of admission. Students are required to submit course descriptions and syllabi for the credits to be evaluated. The Office of the Registrar will make the final determination on what college credits will transfer to Lafayette College. For more information on the criteria used to evaluate transfer credits, please review the Transfer Credit Policy.
Where can I submit documents that are not submitted through the Common Application?
Please email the requirements as attachments to admissions@lafayette.edu.
Are merit scholarships available for transfers?
Merit-based scholarships are determined by the Office of Admission. All transfer applicants to the College are considered for merit and are encouraged to schedule an admissions interview as part of their application experience. All scholarships are awarded at the time of admission and are noted in the applicants’ acceptance letters. Notifications can be found on the applicant portals.
