The mission of Lafayette College Admissions is to honor as many scheduled appointments as possible while keeping in mind the safety of staff, students and visitors during inclement weather and other emergencies affecting the campus.  Safety of the campus for our visitors will be determined by the Dean of Admissions in conjunction with the Visitation Team, staff members on campus and the college’s Incident Response Team.

Visiting students and their families are encouraged to use good judgment and put safety first when deciding whether to travel in inclement weather. If a student cancels an interview due to inclement weather in the student’s travel corridor or in the College’s ecosystem, it will not reflect negatively on the student’s application, as long as the student notifies the Admissions department within 24 hours of the interview of the reason for cancellation. If the College cancels the interview due to inclement weather, it will not reflect negatively on the student’s application.  Lafayette Admissions cannot guarantee a rescheduled interview if an interview is cancelled due to inclement weather or an emergency.

College Closed or Shut Down Full Day

(no classes allowed OR professors conduct classes at their discretion)

  • Tours, Information Sessions, Interviews and Leopard for a Day – If the college is closed for the day due to weather or other emergency, all visitation is cancelled.
  • Notification of the college closing and cancellation of visitation events will be sent to registered students via email and text (if opted-in).  Updates also can be found on the voicemail box message of 610-330-5100, and posted on the college and Admissions websites.

Delayed Opening

If the college has a delayed opening due to inclement weather or other emergency:

  • Tours – then it is unsafe for tours to occur during the closure.  All tours will be cancelled until the college reopens. Once the college reopens, tours will be given at their previously scheduled times.
  • Information Sessions – any Information Sessions scheduled during the closure will be cancelled.  Once the college reopens, Information Sessions will be held at their previously scheduled times.
  • Interviews – interviews scheduled to be held before the college reopens will be cancelled.  Once the college reopens, we will accommodate scheduled interviews at their previously scheduled times.  If an interviewee is already on campus for a cancelled interview, we will attempt to accommodate the interview at some point during that day.  Admissions will add a note to the files of those students whose interviews are cancelled due to inclement weather.
  • Leopard for a Day – most likely will be cancelled.  Since the class schedule for every visiting student is different, the possibility of attending only those classes held after the college reopens must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Notification of the college closing and cancellation of visitation events will be sent to registered students via email and text (if opted-in).  Updates also can be found on the voicemail box message of 610-330-5100, and posted on the college and Admissions websites.

Early Close

If the college closes early due to inclement weather or other emergency, we encourage visitors to leave campus so that they can travel safely and avoid dangerous roadways on the trip home.

  • Tours – If the college is closed, then it is unsafe for tours to occur. All tours scheduled after the college closes will be cancelled.
  • Information Sessions – Any information sessions scheduled for a time after the college closes will be cancelled.
  • Interviews – Admissions will attempt to accommodate interviews for those already on campus when the college closure announcement is made.  All interviews scheduled after the closure will be cancelled.  Admissions will add a note to the files of those students whose interviews are cancelled due to inclement weather.
  • Leopard for a Day – most likely will be cancelled.  Since the class schedule for every visiting student is different, the possibility of attending only those classes held before the college closes must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Notification of an early college closing and cancellation of visitation events will occur via voicemail message on 610-330-5100 and posting on the college and Admissions websites.  If time permits, notification will also occur via email and text (if opted-in).
