Are you convinced that Lafayette is the best fit for you? If so, consider submitting an Early Decision application.

Apply For Early Decision II by January 15!

apply to Lafayette

A higher percentage of applicants are admitted under Early Decision than under Regular Decision because we give preference to students who are enthusiastic about the chance to join the Lafayette community.  Full consideration is given for both merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid during Early Decision.

Early Decision I

The deadline for Early Decision is November 15. If your application is submitted by November 15 and you’ve met the required financial aid deadlines (if applying for need-based financial aid), we’ll let you know of an admissions decision in mid-December.

Early Decision I applications are usually not reviewed prior to November 15. Official first marking period grades must be received from your high school to complete your file before a review can be done. Applicants admitted under Early Decision must withdraw applications to other institutions when they accept the College’s offer of early admission. Students who apply for Early Decision should mark the appropriate box on page 1 of the Common Application form.

For applicants applying through the 2029 academic year, submission of standardize test scores (SAT and/or ACT) is optional. Any student who decides to change the status of their testing as part of the submitted application, please email admissions@lafayette.edu by the application deadline of November 15 to indicate the change.

Early Decision II

If you decide that Lafayette is your first choice after November 15, you may submit an Early Decision II application until January 15. You can also convert a Regular Decision application, submitted by the January 15 deadline, to Early Decision II until February 1. Early Decision II applicants will be notified of our admission and financial aid decision in mid-February.

Early Decision II applications are reviewed as soon as they are submitted. Official midyear or first trimester grades must be received from your high school to complete your file before a review can be done. Applicants admitted under Early Decision II must withdraw applications to other institutions when they accept the College’s offer of early admission. Students who apply for Early Decision II should mark the appropriate box on page 1 of the Common Application form.

Any student who decides to change the status of testing as part of the submitted application, please email admissions@lafayette.edu by the application deadline of January 15 to indicate the change.

Notification of Admissions Decision

Decisions are released by mail (for accepts) and via the student’s Lafayette portal (all decisions) according to the following schedule:

  • Early Decision I in mid-December
  • Early Decision II in mid-February

Applicants will receive one of three decisions: accept, deny, defer. Defer means that we would like to see your application in the larger context of a complete application pool. Therefore, a defer decision means you are not admitted Early Decision, but you are considered as a Regular Decision applicant, and you will receive your admission decision near the end of March.

Early Decision Agreement

The Early Decision Agreement is a required part of the application and includes the signatures of the applicant, guidance counselor, and the applicant’s parent or guardian. The Early Decision Agreement can be completed electronically by all parties as part of the  Common Application if the appropriate box was checked on page 1 of the Common Application. The Early Decision Agreement can also be downloaded and submitted as an attachment to admissions@lafayette.edu or faxed to 610-330-5355.
